The architects designed a distinctive building for the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research that integrates well into the harbour setting despite it being modern. The flush-mounted casement windows integrated into the brick ensemble are ideal for the windy location. In addition, their seemingly random design creates a pleasant office environment.
