Using PKM to improve the implementation period of building projects - MDI production facilities in Ningbo, China

Time is money - more and more international automotive manufacturers push into the hard-fought Chinese market.  The timely completion of the production facilities for synthetics for the automotive industry enables the constructor Yantai Wanhua Polyurethane to further expand his exposed market position in the supplier sector. Using PKM considerably shortens the project's construction period!

In 2002, the chemical manufacturer Yantai Wanhua Polyurethane has advanced to number 2 of the Top 100 Chinese companies. The company produces various synthetics used, amongst others, for further processing in China's national automotive industry. After completion of the new production facilities, production capacities of the synthetic product MDI are expanded to an annual 160.000 tons. This promotes Yantai Wanhua Polyurethane to one of the world's leading MDI producers.

The future location, Ningbo - scheduled for completion in 2006 - is located 1700 km away from the headquarters in Yantai. With a construction volume of ca. 270 Mio Euro the project forms a milestone in the history of the Chinese chemical industry. Production facilities not only include plants and storage but also administration buildings and disposal facilities.

High construction volume as well as spatial distance of the numerous project participants demands a great deal of factory planners, who, including the use of PKM, competently and efficiently coordinate the project.

The Project Communications Platform PKM networks the roughly 1000 project participants of more than 100 sub-projects: per internet browser, news, fixed dates, documents such as plans or CAD drafts are available to all project participants - anywhere and anytime. PKM controls workflow, monitors scheduling and offers an overview of running projects' costs and decisions.

In only three weeks, the Chinese language was completely integrated into PKM 5.0 enabling the teams of staff of Drees & Sommer International GmbH and Conclude GmbH to successfully install the software PKM on location in Yantai in only three days. Since October 2003, the project is completely controlled by PKM 5.0 - to the satisfaction of all project participants.
