The Research Prize of the German Real-Estate Academy (Deutsche Immobilien-Akademie DIA) for scientific work in the real-estate industry was officially awarded to Drees & Sommer employee Dr. Thomas Harlfinger by Prof. Dr. Heinz Rehkugler of the University of Freiburg on October 25 at EXPO REAL in the presence of Günther Oettinger, Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg.
Thomas Harlfinger was awarded the prize for his dissertation "Reference approach to the redevelopment of legacy office properties". The model shows the optimal approach for the individual phases of project development in office buildings that are vacant or have high vacancy rates. It covers the development of a goal-oriented system and the identification and evaluation of value-add factors. The model also recommends measures for optimal redevelopment based on real-estate-market criteria.
Since spring 2006, Thomas Harlfinger has been a member of the Drees & Sommer expert team for Real-Estate Consulting, contributing his knowledge of revitalization projects, currently a cause of an upswing in the property market. Revitalization offers high value-add potential for commercial - especially office properties - that are vacant or threatened by vacancy.
Thomas Harlfinger has extensive knowledge of the real-estate industry as the result of consulting and research contracts and his specialization in revitalization while studying for his doctorate at the University of Leipzig.
