Consense took place for the first time on 17 and 18 June 2008 at the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre. The new quality mark for the certification of sustainable buildings was presented as part of the international congress and specialist exhibition for sustainable building. Drees & Sommer provided fundamental support for Deutsche Gesellschaft für nachhaltiges Bauen e. V. (DGNB / German Association for Sustainable Building) and the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs in the development of the first German certification system for new buildings. Peter Mösle, the Green Building expert for Drees & Sommer Advanced Building Technologies, underlined the necessity of the German label in his presentation "Why our own certification system?". Dr. Michael Bauer, Managing Director of Drees & Sommer Advanced Building Technologies, also presented comprehensive details of built project examples that comply with 'Green Building' requirements in terms of both construction and operation.
According to Mösle, existing international certifications such as LEED or BREEAM are restricted to the subject of ecology. In contrast, the DGNB certificate also examines buildings for financial sustainability. The property developers and users receive investment security - throughout the entire lifecycle of the building. Numerous Consense visitors came to the Drees & Sommer stand, where the company's experts showed them how ecological and economic requirements could be harmonised. Within this context, Dr. Michael Bauer referred to 'Green Buildings made in Germany'. "As a founder member of the DGNB, we were able to present our innovations and experiences in the Green Building sector to an interested international expert public at Consense," said Dr. Bauer. Plans for participation in 2009 are already underway.
