Heilbronn: Drees & Sommer managing construction of Education Campus as general construction manager

05.02.2010

With today's groundbreaking ceremony, construction of the three educational facilities in Heilbronn's city centre has officially begun. With its so-called general construction management, Drees & Sommer has assumed new responsibility (alongside that for the project management) for the entire architectural and technical planning, tendering and site management. The principal, the Dieter Schwarz Foundation, now has one single contact person for all planning, management and monitoring.

What makes general construction management unique is that the overall responsibility for planning and management is all under one roof. Drees & Sommer coordinates the interfaces with all parties involved - be they architects, construction companies or authorities.

Responsibility for the entire planning and construction process
Drees & Sommer has been involved with the Heilbronn Education Campus Project ever since 2007 when a feasibility study with site search was carried out. In addition to the overall coordination of the architectural competition, the Stuttgart experts were also entrusted with canvassing the views of the users. In March 2009, the Stuttgart agency Glück + Partner emerged as the winner of the competition. In April 2009, Drees & Sommer was entrusted with the general construction management and is thus involved in the entire planning and building process involved - from project initiation to completion of the Education Campus. The ambitious goal to complete the three educational facilities by the autumn 2011 has now - after the groundbreaking ceremony - moved within reach.

From construction physics to facility management consulting
Until then, all parties will continue to work towards realising an optimal result. As part of the general construction management, the Education Campus project will benefit from the full expertise of the Drees & Sommer Group. In addition, the experts are assuming responsibility for, among other things, user management, building physics, system planning and facility management consulting. The latter will ensure a functional and efficient operation of the three educational facilities.
