Urban development in Hamm: 'Im Westen was Neues'

Drees & Sommer undertakes overall project control of the urban development project 'Im Westen was Neues' in Hamm.

Based on the ideas used in its submission for the State Garden Festival 2014, the City of Hamm is developing an urban renewal project focusing on amenity. The program comprises six phases covering a total of 120 subprojects with a total volume of approx. EUR 31 million. The development managers from Drees & Sommer will control tasks such as the construction of canal bridges over the Datteln-Hamm canal, dyke systems and parklands, and an interreligious place of encounter, as well as the rehabilitation of a function hall and a roller hockey stadium.

Known as the 'Schacht-Franz' site, the core area has an area of approx. 42 hectares. It is supplemented by additional areas to the north: Land along the Datteln-Hamm Canal,  Radbod Hill (formed by tailings) and the northern Lippe riparian wetlands. The plan also includes the Kissinger and Humbert Hills (also tailings), which lie to the south.  A key element of the concept is a bridge across the canal and the River Lippe. This not only connects to the cycleways on the central dam separating the river from the canal, but also provides a pedestrian and cycle link to the suburbs of Herringen and Bockum-Hövum. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2014.
