Marriott is planning to open further hotels in major Russian cities. Drees & Sommer is supporting both the Austrian financial institute that is financing the projects and the investor, developer and operator CH-Group by providing project controlling in the execution phase. Following the successful completion of the first two hotels in St. Petersburg and Kazan - despite the financial crisis - additional hotels are being built in Irkutsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Ufa and other cities with populations of over a million.
The next Marriott hotel in Russia will be completed in the city center of Irkutsk in June of this year. A complex with 208 rooms and a floor area of more than 11,000 square meters is currently under construction. Other new construction projects for the Russian developer CH-Group are scheduled to start in spring 2011. These include the start of construction of the Marriott Hotel in Nizhny Novgorod. Work in Omsk will start in the second quarter of this year. These hotels in major Russian cities are business hotels in central locations.
Drees & Sommer Russia is undertaking cost assurance for a total of six projects, and is ensuring quality levels and adherence to schedules as part of its project control role.
St. Petersburg: Hotel operation commenced
The first of the hotels was opened in June 2010. The Marriott Courtyard Pushkin Hotel on the Gribayedova Canal in the historical town center of St. Petersburg has a total floor area of 16,900 square meters, 273 rooms, three restaurants, and nine conference rooms. The implementation of the project was influenced not only by the financial crisis, but also by such challenges as the sophisticated inner-city location and the extensive restoration of the historic palace linked to the hotel and used as a venue for weddings.
