Description

New use - in 2010, the regional garden show will take place in Hemer, North Rhine-Westphalia. Within the scope of planning for the regional garden show, the former Blücher barracks site is also to be redeveloped for alternative use in terms of urban planning and integrated into the urban open space and recreational system. In this way, the inner city's residential and centre functions are to be enhanced, also allowing the city's image to be given a new profile.

Complex requirements - in planning the outdoor area for the regional garden festival its subsequent use is also to be taken into consideration. A special challenge is how to handle the complex situation of existing buildings in the military area being redeveloped for alternative use within a very distinctive site bordering onto the "Felsenmeer" nature reserve. The main focus will be on the development of the new cultural quarters with a multi-functional hall, the city terraces and the cliff park directly connected to the nature reserve. The integrated implementation of the urban planning infrastructure measures represents a special challenge to the interface management of the entire project.

Experienced partners - due to their years of experience in multi-project management and the development of former military sites, Drees &Sommer Infra Consult und Entwicklungsmanagement were awarded the contract for project control. Drees & Sommer will be managing the measures in a working group with Herbstreit Landschaftsarchitekten so that all of the approx. 90 projects can be completed within the budget and schedule by April 2010.
