As a supporter of the hosting bid, Drees & Sommer is rooting for Munich.
The decision as to which city will host the 2018 Winter Olympics will be taken on July 6, 2011 in Durban, South Africa. At a huge street event in the Bavarian capital of Munich - as well as at festivals in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, next to Königssee Lake near Berchtesgaden and in the Deutsches Haus (Germany House) in Durban - fans of "Munich 2018" will be able to share the excitement of the award ceremony, watching live as IOC President Jacques Rogge announces the name of the host.
Drees & Sommer also awaits the decision with bated breath. As a "Friend of the Bid", Drees & Sommer has been supporting the hosting organization since the beginning of 2010. Recently, the 'Munich Working Group' (immoebs, gif and RICS), Medienfabrik and Drees & Sommer hosted an evening of presentations entitled "Fire for the flame: Munich's bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics". More than 100 guests from the real estate industry enjoyed an in-depth look at the hosting concept.
The concept offers unique opportunities for urban development and the further development of infrastructure. The Games also have the potential to become a lighthouse project in the area of sustainability, as it is the stated aim to stage a climate-neutral event.
So cross your fingers (or 'press your thumbs', as the Germans say) until the decision is taken on July 6.
