Applications invited for architectural competition for Qingdao, China

Drees & Sommer Shanghai is organizing an international urban planning and architectural competition for the harbor city of Qingdao in Shandong province in the east of China.

Qingdao has a population of 8 million and the reputation of being China's beer capital, the result of German settlement in the period 1897 to 1914. As part of the new Central Business District, a modern development with housing, shopping center, hotel and office buildings with a floor area of some 200,000 sqm is to be built on a former factory site with a total area of 55 hectares. Drees & Sommer Shanghai has been commissioned by the investor Lubang Real Estate Development (Shandong) Ltd to run a limited international architectural competition. Architects from Asia, Europe and America are invited to apply to participate.
