Lake Constance thermal baths opened

27.07.2007

The EUR 26 million project is the city of Constance's biggest post-war investment.

Drees & Sommer has been supporting the new thermal baths project by providing project analysis, execution strategy and project control, as well as technical & economic controlling through to construction or contract award.

Designed by architect Alexander von Salmuth, the glass facade - 78 meters wide and nearly 9 meters high - overlooks Lake Constance with the Alps in the background. The thermals baths offer visitors some 3,000 square meters of thermal water for swimming and recuperation. The spa complex comprises indoor and outdoor pools, four saunas, a separate 50-meter open-air pool, an 86-meter waterslide, and extensive lawns for sunbathing. The energy concept developed by the Drees & Sommer DS-Plan Expert Team with a cogeneration plant (heat and power) and a heat pump makes maximum use of the energy in the thermal water which has a temperature of 29.6 °C. This minimizes the operating cost and improves the environmental balance of the spa.
