On December 14, 2007 the New Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre and SpOrt Stuttgart were recognized as the most innovative buildings in the region.
"It is our intention to reward the courageous for undertaking pioneering projects, to encourage innovation, and to showcase the high level of construction innovation in the Stuttgart region," said Prof. Dr. Friedrich Hensler, General Manager of Drees & Sommer Stuttgart and member of the Advisory Board of IWS, the Stuttgart Property Association.
IWS received a total of 22 submissions. This high number is indicative of the very high quality of projects in the Stuttgart region and reflects the open-mindedness of the construction industry. In addition to the criteria innovation, economy, architecture and urban planning, ecological and technical features were also evaluated. The jury regarded the New Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre as a "flagship for our innovative region" with an impressive score in all criteria. The SpOrt building in Bad Cannstatt - commended for its multi-purpose approach and unusual architecture - also received an award.
Originally, only one award was to be presented, but the jury was equally impressed by the two buildings. Drees & Sommer had previously initiated a similar award in Berlin with great success, and benefited from the great experience of the Berlin colleagues at this premiere event. The Stuttgart Building Award will be conferred every two years.
