The EUR 76 million building is an attraction in the up-and-coming university city.
On 30 October 2007, the ECE opened the Espark Shopping Centre in this city of 600,000. While the foundation stone was laid in July 2006, only eight months into construction, the project was four months behind schedule. To ensure that the centre would open as planned in October 2007, in February ECE commissioned Drees & Sommer to provide project management for the new building. The project managers drew up an extensive crisis plan, with the aid of which the construction project was brought to a successful conclusion.
With 45,000 square metres of leasable space over four levels, the shopping centre is home to 140 shops. They include, for instance, a supermarket, fashion boutiques, specialist shops, restaurants and a multiplex cinema. A three-storey car park with room for 1,100 vehicles is available for visitors.
