Drees & Sommer ensured that the project was completed within the extremely tight 13-month schedule.
December 21, 2007 saw the new Olympic ski jump ramp in Garmisch-Partenkirchen used for the first time on the occasion of the Continental Cup. On behalf of the client - the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Construction Office - Drees & Sommer coordinated the architect selection process, which was won by the team comprising Mayr+Ludescher Ingenieure (engineers), Sieber + Renn Architekten and terrain: loenhart & mayr (architects & landscape architects). The time between the completion of the architectural competition and the planned first use only allowed 13 months for construction of the ramp. To ensure that this tight schedule was met, Drees & Sommer controlled and checked all processes from planning and invitation to tender through to execution and handover. This also included monitoring of performance, construction planning, deadlines and contract management. The design of the new ski jump ramp required 655 tonnes of steel, approximately the weight of 165 Asian elephants. Despite the complex structure and the tight schedule, all deadlines were met, allowing the maiden jump to take place on schedule on December 21. Felix Schoft, a talented young ski-jumper from the local Partenkirchen Ski Club achieved the very respectable distance of 132 meters.
