A groundbreaking ceremony at the end of January marked the start of Germany's first Public Private Partnership in the area of sport and culture.
The showpiece project with an investment volume of some EUR 50 million is the largest construction project in the City of Ludwigsburg in the last 20 years. In addition to a multipurpose hall, an underground car park, hotel and residential sports school will be built on the 15,000 square meter Nestlé site in the center of Ludwigsburg.
Drees & Sommer has been supporting this major project since 2004 and developed the project concept together with the City of Ludwigsburg. Following marketing and requirements analysis, the execution strategy and profitability study demonstrated that the project could be implemented using the PPP model. Drees & Sommer PPP experts supported the City of Ludwigsburg throughout the contract award process and during the final selection of private investors and operators. In the later course of the project, Drees & Sommer undertook construction management and controlling as well as acceptance and handover management.
Commissioning of the multipurpose hall - which will host home games of basketball premier league team EnBW Ludwigsburg in addition to concerts and conventions - is planned for mid 2009.
