With over 3,300 exhibits, it is regarded as the country's major Roman museum. Built at the beginning of the 20th century in antique style, the museum is part of Carnuntum Archeological Park which lies some 40 kilometers east of Vienna. Extensive construction work is planned at the excavation site through 2011. The project includes remodeling of the Visitor Center and a complete transport concept both inside and outside the archeological park. The amphitheater entrance is to be remodeled and parking facilities redesigned.
