The sod-turning ceremony at the end of April marked the start of construction of a new building for SWR (South-West Broadcasting).
New television and radio studios with a total area of 30,000 square meters, as well as office and editorial workplaces for some 480 employees, are being built right next to the SWR Funkhaus (Radio House) in Stuttgart East. Drees & Sommer has been supporting the project since 2001. During the initial project development phase, the experts carried out several feasibility studies and an architectural competition. In 2004, they were awarded the contract for project control, being tasked with ensuring that budget, schedules and quality levels were met throughout the project. With a price tag of # 81 million, SWR is building one of the most modern media production facilities in Germany. Operations are scheduled to commence in 2011. The various operational units of SWR - which are currently scattered at various locations - will then be united under one roof.
