In the Chinese metropolis of Wuxi, 150 kilometres west of Shanghai, a new municipal sub-centre is being built.
Drees & Sommer Infra Consult und Entwicklungsmanagement, in conjunction with the architecture and urban planning office of SBA International Co. Ltd. (SBA), developed a comprehensive feasibility study for the project. Plans envision the creation of some 745,000 m2 of high-grade living, office, retail and recreational space within an urban space 54 hectares in size. The main commercial residents proposed for the future sub-centre are the services sector, media and design, tourism, and IT and electronics. Drees & Sommer Infra Consult und Entwicklungsmanagement completed a detailed analysis of the location and market. The experts also consulted comparable projects that have already been carried out and drew up a detailed use and workflow concept. In addition, they provided consulting services to Chinese partner, SBA, for its preparation of a detailed master plan. In light of the successful and proven co-operative effort, further joint projects are planned in Shanghai and Beijing, as well as in the up and coming metropolises of Tianjin and Chongqing.
