On 10th October 2008, the VDI Society for Building Services bestowed its VDI Emblem of Honour to the Managing Director of Drees & Sommer Advanced Building Technologies GmbH.
Dr. Michael Bauer has rendered a great service in the areas of the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings, and in the effort to consider a building as an overall system from a functional and energy standpoint. For his achievements, the VDI Society for Building Services has now presented him with the Emblem of Honour of the Association of German Engineers.
Since his days as a student, Dr. Michael Bauer has been a committed participant in the activities of the VDI Society for Building Services. In January 2007, he became a member of the Advisory Board, and as chairman he is in charge of the experts' commission on thermal energy/heating technology as well as of the work to revise VDI Guideline 2067/1: Economic Efficiency of Building Installations: Fundamentals and Economic Calculation.
As a 'green building' expert, for 15 years Dr. Michael Bauer has worked to come up with solutions for economically and ecologically efficient buildings. His publications in this area include Green Building - Konzepte für nachhaltige Architektur [Green Building: Concepts for Sustainable Architecture], a technical book co-authored with Peter Mösle and Michael Schwarz.
