Large-scale infrastructure project in Belval-Ouest, Luxembourg

In March 2005 Drees & Sommer Luxembourg in cooperation with DS-Infra was commissioned by the development company agora to take up the tasks of controlling and managing the infrastructure works within the scope of the challenging reconversion project in Belval-Ouest.

Since the shutdown of the last ARBED furnace in 1997 the site covering an area of approximately 120 hectare has been left unexploited. The long-term enterprise aims at creating a multi-utilized urban quarter on this former industrial site pooling premium retail and service businesses, research and development establishments, as well as commercial enterprises and habitations. For this purpose the area has been divided into 4 quarters: "Belval Terrasse", "Square Mile", "Le Parc Belval", and "Le Quartier Belval". The interconnection of the individual quarters is designed to provide for internal mobility. The development project focuses in particular on the promotion of public transport.
