On January 12, 2009 the first awards of a pilot version of the German Sustainable Building Seal certificate were made at the BAU exhibition in Munich.
The Drees & Sommer office building 'Obere Waldplätze 11' (OWP 11) in Stuttgart-Vaihingen achieved 'Gold' certification. This makes the building - first conceived in 1999 - the oldest of six properties to be awarded 'Gold".
Four public and twelve private buildings received the first German Sustainable Building Seal awards from Wolfgang Tiefensee, Federal Minister for Transport, Construction & Urban Development and Prof. Werner Sobek, President of the German Sustainable Building Council(DGNB). Achieving some 81 percent of the maximum score, the Drees & Sommer office building OWP 11 qualified for 'Gold'. The building excelled with outstanding energy properties through the use of geothermal energy and exceptional thermal insulation of the building envelope, as well as through great user comfort.
