Refurbishment of Märkisches Viertel, Berlin

23.03.2009

Märkisches Viertel - the major Berlin housing development built between 1963 and 1974 - is being comprehensively refurbished. Drees & Sommer is responsible for project control of three groups of apartment buildings.

Following the initial commission in May 2008, this is the third project in the Märkisches Viertel to be managed by Drees & Sommer. The experts are monitoring schedule, costs and quality levels for a total of some 3,500 apartments.

By 2016, GESOBAU AG will renovate around 13,000 apartments, some of them occupied. In addition to rehabilitation of the reticulation system and a facelift for the facade, the EUR 440 million renovation program also involves energy conservation measures. The rentability of vacant apartments will be enhanced by optimizing the floor plan.
