Project control at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele

28.09.2009

Using funds from the German government's second recovery package, Drees & Sommer has been awarded the contract for project controlling services at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.

The property, which is under a preservation order and dates back to the 1960s, will undergo partial restoration and modernisation work. A fundamental objective and, at the same time, major challenge will be to carry out and balance the accounts for this work by the end of 2011 in order to ensure that the project qualifies for the full funding. The Haus der Berliner Festspiele is one of the most prominent theatre buildings of post-war modernism. In 1963, the property was opened as the "Free People's Theatre" (Theater der Freien Volksbühne) under the directorship of Erwin Piscator and, besides the Deutsche Oper Berlin opera house, is one of the most  widely known designs of the Berlin architect, Fritz Bornemann.
