The Cäcilium office building in Cologne has been awarded Silver precertification by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
The precertification - awarded a month ago at Expo Real - is the first step towards attaining the DGNB label. The awards, which only very few buildings in North Rhine-Westphalia have received to date, are a seal of sustainable building. This is particularly important for buildings with a large number of people and high energy demand, such as office buildings. Drees & Sommer is managing the project through until final award of the DGNB label. The Green Building experts have been supporting the Cäcilium project since construction started at the beginning of 2008.
The topic of "Sustainable Building" is of growing importance in Germany, as an increasing number of real estate industry players are recognizing the long-term value of Green Buildings as energy-efficient and environmentally friendly properties.
