Drees & Sommer awarded general contract for Fehmarn Belt Bridge

18.01.2010

The Fehmarn Belt Bridge will link Scandinavia and continental Europe via the shortest route - the Vogelfluglinie (bird flight route).

The Fehmarn Belt is a 19-km strait between the Schleswig-Holstein Baltic island of Fehmarn and the Danish Lolland island. Until now, a ferry between Puttgarden on Fehmarn and Rødby on Lolland has been the shortest sea route between Scandinavia and Germany. The Fehmarn Belt Bridge will result in a permanent road and rail link between the two countries.
Drees & Sommer has been awarded a general contract for consulting services regarding German regulatory approval by the Danish company Femern A/S. Femern has been entrusted with designing, planning and building the bridge with a total budget of approx. # 5 million. The bridge is scheduled to be opened at the end of 2018.
