Drees & Sommer develops ideas for future land use.
At the end of 2012, RAG Aktiengesellschaft (formerly Ruhrkohle AG) will close the Kamp-Lintfort mine, the last remaining active coal mine on the lower Rhine. Drees & Sommer is working with RAG Immobilien (real estate) and the city of Kamp-Lintfort to develop plans for future use of the disused site. In addition to the 40-hectare Friedrich-Heinrich pithead, the immediate development site includes a 40-hectare coal depot to the south bordering on the Norddeutschlandstrasse road.
It is intended that the overall concept will integrate a new building for the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Science and possible expansion area for the 'logport' logistics center at the Duisburg port.
