Inauguration of the Centre for Palliative Medicine, Munich-Großhadern

17.05.2004

On April 27, 2004 the Interdisciplinary Centre for Palliative Medicine (IZP) was inaugurated in the Dr. Mildred-Scheel-House at the Hospital of the University Munich.
The University building control department was responsible for the project management. Drees & Sommer Munich was commissioned with the schedule planning and control at this project. The team succeeded in a realisation on schedule, which was successfully concluded after 18 months of construction time with handing over the IZP to the user in March 2004. For the IZP two storeys were added to the existing laboratory building, which was also enhanced with a top-structured building as entrance area. The new sector now serves as centre to supply seriously diseased and dying people and is used for research and theory purposes in the palliative medicine. The construction project was mainly financed by the Deutsche Krebshilfe e.V. (German Association for the Fight against Cancer), by the Bavarian Social Services Ministry and the Bavarian Foundation of the Land.
