Stuttgart Airport: Great Performance at Terminal 3

30.03.2004

On 26 March, 2004 the new terminal 3 at Stuttgart Airport was inaugurated with numerous guests from policy and economy.
Among others, Dr. Wolfgang Schuster, Lord Mayor of the state capital Stuttgart, as well as Ulrich Müller, Minister for Environment and Traffic of Baden-Württemberg, were present. In order to successfully realise a project of this dimension under difficult conditions the Airport Company Stuttgart engaged Drees & Sommer Stuttgart with comprehensive consultation and management services. They reached from the support of the architect competition procedure over the planning stage to the control of the individual construction measures. During the construction stage temporary connection aisles had to be laid for the daily airport guests, so that the air traffic did not have to be restricted. 100 companies participated in the construction as well as 1000 workers, from whom mostly 400 were actively involved on the construction site and followed the instructions of the 200 engineers, architects and consulters. Approximately 6000 invoices were fed into the expert system of Drees & Sommer, which was especially developed. These were relevant for the prognosis of the cost development. By means of successful teamwork Drees & Sommer achieved a great performance with regard to costs and schedules.
