Darwineum in Rostock Zoo: Milestone achieved

15.08.2011

Foundation stone laid for new ape house with interactive exhibition. Drees & Sommer is managing the ambitious project.

The Darwineum - a new building in Rostock Zoo - will take shape over the next twelve months. Visitors will be able to experience the animals in their complex ecosystems and also enjoy an interactive 'Journey through evolution' exhibition. The laying of the foundation stone at the beginning of August 2011 marks an important milestone on the road to the official opening, which is planned for August 2012.

Drees & Sommer has been commissioned to undertake project control of this ambitiously scheduled project. In addition to ensuring timely completion, a key focus is on remaining within budget, particularly as the Darwineum is funded by public-sector clients with the aid of subsidies. Careful quality control is required during the construction of the various animal enclosures. The goal is to create near-natural ecosystems for the animals including the appropriate climatic conditions for each species.
