The topping-out ceremony at the end of July 2011 represents a further milestone on the way to a new ski jump in Oberstdorf's Erdinger Arena. The 100-tonne, 55-meter take-off ramp for the new normal hill ski jump (HS 106) was assembled on the ground in five weeks. Before truck-mounted cranes positioned the structure on July 30, the details had been fine-tuned with athletes and coaches to ensure it fully met the athletes' specific needs.
The project started in summer 2010. The old take-off ramp was dismantled at the end of March this year. Drees & Sommer is providing project control services for this highly complex project, ensuring that cost, schedule and quality goals are met.

The ski jump being replaced was used by the Oberstdorf ski jumpers as a training facility. The new ski jump was necessary because the previous one - now some 30 years old - no longer complied with International Ski Federation (FIS) regulations.

Oberstdorf has had a second ski jump since the end of July. Work will be fully completed in November 2011, allowing the athletes to use the facility in the Erdinger Arena during the approaching winter season.
