On April 17, 2010 the State Garden Festival 2010 opened its gates at the site of the former Blücher Barracks in Hemer.
Over 29,000 visitors participated in the opening ceremony. For 191 days, State Garden Festival Hemer will offer gardening and landscape architectural highlights on a 67-hectare site.
Working in a consortium with Herbstreit Landschaftsarchitekten (landscape architects), Drees & Sommer Infra Consult and Development Management undertook project management for some 90 individual projects, including a multipurpose hall.
During planning, the redevelopment site comprising the area previously occupied by the Blücher Barracks and its surroundings was given a new role in the urban plan as part of the city's open-space and leisure facilities.
Construction work was also hindered by a total of 17 weeks of cold winter weather, making project completion a race against time. Despite adverse climatic conditions, the project managers were able to ensure timely completion of all projects.
