The topping-out ceremony for the second phase of Brandenburg Clinic - which is to be completed in spring 2011 - was held today.
Since 1998, Drees & Sommer has been responsible for controlling the centralization and restructuring of the clinic over three construction phases. Covering an area of some 23,000 square meters, the project involves a ward building, operating theater for out-patient eye surgery, and facilities for physiotherapy.
Maintaining clinic operations during the work represents a special logistical and technical challenge. The use of a temporary building allowed old buildings to be demolished without impacting clinic operations.
A new operating center including an intensive-care ward, emergency rooms, interdisciplinary examination center and five new wards was opened back in 2002.
The second phase is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2011.
This will then be followed by the completion of the passageway with an underground tunnel and possibly a third phase involving the refurbishment of the 100-year-old building.
