Rome's "Via Laurentina" awarded gold medal for sustainability

22.11.2011

The LEED Green Building certificate documents the building's ecological sustainability, high user comfort and low operating costs.

Drees & Sommer supported the project from the first analysis through monitoring to certification.

The "Via Laurentina" is the first building in Italy to be awarded the Gold LEED certificate in accordance with NC 2009. Drinking water consumption was reduced by nearly 80 percent and energy consumption by nearly 40 percent. The building has renewable energy systems that cover some 18 percent of the building's energy demand. Since August 2009, SEB Asset Management and Drees & Sommer have been working on certification of the office building. Initially, the intention was to apply for LEED Silver certification. Thanks to close project support, Gold certification was achieved for the first of the five buildings within budget. The team is now striving to achieve Gold for the remaining four buildings in the complex.
