European Dialog Initiative 16.09.2021

On the 16th september Drees & Sommer welcomed guests onsight at the „Green Deal“ event as part of the european dialog initiative. With more than 50 people onsite at the creative Mama Shelter Hotel in Luxembourg we have invited an exclusive range of guests and speakers. In strong international collaboration with Drees & Sommer Luxembourg.

KEYNOTE CLAUDE TURMES

The day began with a keynote of the Minister for Energy and Spatial Planning, Claude Turmes about „Luxembourg in Transition – Territorial visions for a zero-carbon and resilient Luxembourg in 2050”.

He explained Luxembourg’s ambitious goals to reduce it’s footprint and why the current climate targets are inadequate. He also provided information about the Horizon35 and Horizon50 medium- and long-term spatial planning strategies. For this initiative, the minister is collaborating closely with the Luxembourg’s neighbors and the European mindset they are adopting.

EXECUTIVE LECTURES

The keynote was followed by executive lectures

  • Peter Laubenstein, CEO of Deceuninck, Germany, spoke about the circular economy. // Presentation
  • Sara Bouchon, Director of Market Intelligence at Luxinnovation showed the importance of innovation to achieving a sustainable and competitive economy.
  • Jochen Fehse, Head of Product Management at Bosch, gave a talk on the stationary fuel cell system as a way of achieving greater energy efficiency in the future. // Presentation

Before breaking for lunch, we welcomed Dr. Mathis Wackernagel, who gave an inspiring speech on Earth Overshoot Day entitled “Are we shifting the date?”

KEYNOTE CLAUDE SEYWERT

The second keynote was presented by Claude Seywert, Chief Executive Officer of Encevo, a leading and sustainable energy player in Luxembourg and the event host.

He presented a special hydrogen network linking countries in the Luxembourg region, with projects covering industry, mobility and hydrogen transportation. The focus was on the mosaHYc (Mosel Saar HYdrogen Conversion) project, which aims to repurpose gas pipelines for a hydrogen grid.

The panelists discussed the impacts of the ‘Green Deal’ from different perspectives. Topics covered included carbon-neutral steel, how the regulatory Green Deal is a gamechanger that also takes social and environmental aspects into account, and how a sustainable and ESG-compliant asset has a positive impact on financial outcomes.
