The BMW-Brilliance engine plant has reached a significant milestone with the completion of the foundry in China.
The new engine plant for BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA) – a joint venture between BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke AG) and Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd – is currently being built in the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang. It is located next to the existing BMW vehicle plant in the district of Tiexi, and is the automotive group’s first independent plant with an integrated foundry. The first BMW engine to be cast outside Germany was poured there in November 2014. BMW has reached an important milestone with the start of engine production in China. Together with its joint venture partner, the carmaker plans to manufacture 400,000 engines per year and produce twice as many vehicles for the local market as in the past.
Commissioning of the entire plant is scheduled for 2016. In addition to the foundry, the new BMW-Brilliance engine plant will include a service building, a machining workshop, assembly, logistics and warehousing.
Drees & Sommer has been supporting BMW AG with the project since its inception in 2012. In the context of project management, experts are supporting the client with project management during the preliminary design phase and afterwards with the steering of the quality assurance team, as well as with cost controlling during preliminary design.
