Mongolia: DGNB Platinum for the new city in the steppe

A new city is taking shape 30 km south of the capital Ulaanbaatar: Maidar Eco City.

Over the next few years, 114 square kilometers of city comprising residential areas, business and industry parks, roads, parks and gardens will rise from the steppe. Drees & Sommer is developing Maidar Eco City together with an international planning team. One day it will house a population of up to 300,000 – under ecologically exemplary conditions. In the summer, the first concept phase was completed with the official award of DGNB Platinum preliminary certification. In the meantime, Drees & Sommer has also been commissioned to undertake development management and project organization.

In future, Maidar Eco City will relieve the burden on the current capital, Ulaanbaatar, which has a population of 1.3 million. Maidar Eco City is intended to become the spiritual and cultural center of Mongolia, and also to be a flagship project for sustainable urban development.
