The A3 autobahn is part of the European transport network and one of the most important motorways in Germany. The section between the Biebelried and Fürth/Erlangen interchanges is to be upgraded to six lanes by 2025. With an investment volume of more than € 900 million, the project is being awarded using the public private partnership (PPP) model.
Up to 90,000 vehicles use the 80-kilometer stretch of autobahn each day. This results in frequent traffic congestion and tailbacks. The North Bavarian Highway Authority therefore plans to upgrade the road to meet increasing demand. An invitation to tender as a PPP project has been issued, making this the largest highway project in Bavaria to be realized using this model. In addition to upgrading the autobahn, other work will include the construction of noise barriers and over- and underpasses.
Drees & Sommer infrastructure experts are supporting the North Bavarian Highway Authority with the project. They are helping with the preparation of technical contract award documents and supporting the client in negotiations with potential investors. The team of experts is also helping the Highway Authority with the evaluation of bids.
