New housing for Berlin

The new building is being built a site of some 5,000 square meters in Berlin Adlershof.

The foundation stone for 62 new rental apartments being built for STADT UND LAND Wohnbauten-Gesellschaft was laid in Katharina-Boll-Dornberger-Strasse in Adlershof in December 2015. Drees & Sommer is undertaking construction management and supporting the project from the detailed planning stage to handover.

The apartments range in size from 40 to 110 square meters. The mix of large and small apartments is designed to meet the needs of different tenants. The building comprises two parts with different facilities. The stairwells of the one part of the building, for example, will be equipped with a wheelchair-accessible elevator. The other part will have apartments with two or three similar rooms and a communal area. These will be suitable for sharing, for example by groups of students. Some of the apartments will be wheelchair-accessible. An underground car park and tenant gardens round out the concept. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2016.

Drees & Sommer was already commissioned to undertake project management during the design phase. The experts drew up the tender and contract documents for STADT UND LAND Wohnbauten-Gesellschaft as a functional construction/performance specification, and supported the company with the two-stage contract award process for the prime contractor project. Drees & Sommer is controlling project costs, schedule and quality, and assisting the principal with Lean Site Management.

Katharina-Boll-Dornberger-Strasse is part of a new development called ‘Wohnen am Campus’ (‘Living on campus’). Housing associations, cooperatives and property developers are building a campus with a mix of rental apartments and condominiums on a 14-hectare site. It will provide housing for over 2,000 people.
