On August 25, 2016, some 300 guests attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the European Training Center for the Residential Property and Real Estate Industry (EBZ) in Bochum.
The new EBZ training and research center is being built on a site measuring approximately 8,000 square meters. The building’s features include seminar and meeting rooms, a foyer with multimedia highlights, and approximately 120 office workplaces, including some for employees of the InWIS research institute (Institute for Housing, Real Estate, Urban and Regional Development). The building was planned by the Dortmund-based architectural firm Gerber Architekten, winner of the associated architectural competition. Project management and general technical planning, the invitation to tender, and construction controlling services are being provided by project management and consulting firm Drees & Sommer. Construction is due to start in November, with the building scheduled to be completed in spring 2018.
The EBZ has been located in Bochum since 1997. Since 2003, the number of vocational and continuing training students, along with staff numbers, have been growing continuously. Today, the EBZ has over 280 employees. The expansion of facilities was made necessary by the foundation of the EBZ Business School – University of Applied Sciences.
