EBZ’s Research and Training Center to Act as Innovation Hub for the Housing and Real Estate Industry

The new building of EBZ European Education Centre for Housing and Real Estate was inaugurated in the German city of Bochum on 19 July 2018. The ceremony was attended by political and industry representatives. Drees & Sommer was involved in the entire building process and provided a comprehensive range of services in the context of general construction management.

The new EBZ facility includes conference and seminar rooms and office space. Thanks to integrated cutting-edge technology, it can function as a genuine laboratory for research into every aspect of energy efficiency in buildings. The European training center includes the EBZ Vocational College, the EBZ Academy for Further Education, the renowned InWIS research and consultancy institute for housing, real estate, urban and regional development, the EBZ Business School – University of Applied Sciences and EBZ Service GmbH. The new building, realized in response to the growing number of students, was designed by architects’ firm Gerber, based in the German city of Dortmund. Drees & Sommer was responsible for project management and for other areas such as general technology planning, including the energy and climate control concept.

During the ceremony, which formed part of the annual summer festival organized by the Association of Real Estate and Housing of the German federal state of North Rhine-Westfalia (VdW Rheinland Westfalen), guests such as Bochum’s Mayor Thomas Eiskirch, and Ina Scharrenbach, Minister for Homeland and Municipal Affairs, Construction and Equality in North Rhine-Westphalia, highlighted the importance of EBZ for innovation in the entire housing and real estate industry. EBZ construction project manager was Nadin Bozorgzadeh, who gave a presentation on the subject of digitization. In her role as Senior Project Partner, she heads our Dortmund office.
