The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalization and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia recognized the new construction as a particularly energy-efficient office building. Drees & Sommer participated in this project, which was part of the redevelopment of the Zollverein coal mine.

On June 13, 2019, a total of six projects for particularly energy-efficient schools and office buildings received awards as part of the energy-efficient non-residential buildings project. Among the winners was the new building of the RAG Foundation.

The jury was particularly impressed by the fact that the administration building of the RAG Foundation and RAG AG in the German city of Essen was designed with circular product flows in mind. In other words, the deconstruction and subsequent use of the building materials were also taken into consideration. Drees & Sommer supported the project with Green Building certification and engineering services.

The awards were bestowed to the clients, architects and energy planning firms by Christoph Dammermann, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalization and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, together with Dr. Frank-Michael Baumann, CEO of EnergieAgentur.NRW.

We are delighted about this wonderful award and hope to be able to carry out many more of these challenging projects in the service of the environment.
