beyond bauhaus: the Cradle to Cradle® Design Concept in Practice

‘Movements such as Fridays for Future show that social awareness of climate change is growing. The construction and real estate industry also wants to make serious changes and is increasingly focusing on recycling-enabled building. Approaches such as Cradle to Cradle® offer an innovative solution and help to make a noticeable contribution to the protection of the climate and the conservation of resources,’ says Dr. Peter Mösle, Managing Director of EPEA GmbH – Part of Drees & Sommer.

What is behind Cradle to Cradle®? And how can products be designed so that they are preserved as ‘nutrients’ in biological and technical life cycles rather than being treated as waste? All this is explained by Professor Dr. Michael Braungart, the co-developer of the Cradle to Cradle design concept, at the beyond bauhaus event on August 22, 2019 in Berlin. The event is being held in the cultural center Aufbau Haus Berlin and consists of various lectures and discussion panels. Among many other highlights, Rob Kragt of CSR Communication, who is also the training manager of Tarkett Holding GmbH, and Michel Weijers, the project manager of Venlo City Hall in the Netherlands and Managing Director of C2C ExpoLAB, give exciting insights into the implementation of the Cradle to Cradle concept in practice. The program also includes the opportunity to see the awards issued in the international competition beyond bauhaus – prototyping the future by the initiative Germany – Land of Ideas. One of the prizewinning entries, for example, is an environmentally friendly concrete for use in coastal regions.
