On June 26 and 27, 2019, over 200 participants attended the 9th convention on The Clinic Real Estate of the Next Generation in The Squaire at Frankfurt International Airport to hear well-known speakers from Germany, other European countries and the USA who provided insights into current trends in the industry.
This year, the convention was devoted to exploring new planning methods, business organization planning and user involvement, new award strategies for the implementation of major projects and strategic master planning of hospitals. In addition to international hospital topics, measures for sustainable hospital concepts and new digital concepts were presented.
After the welcome speech by Jürgen Zimmermann, Director Healthcare Division of Drees & Sommer and the words of the patrons Healthcare Without Harm Europe and AKG-Architects, Professor Hofrichter of ash-Architects gave a lecture in which he pointed out the success of the series of the event.
Keynote speaker Alexander Morton (Partner Advisory Health Care, Deloitte GmbH) spoke in his lecture about the economic situation of hospitals in Germany and pointed out a number of negative influencing factors. In his opinion they include declining patient numbers, efficient treatment, rising numbers of outpatients and staff shortages – factors which place an increasing burden on hospitals. His conclusion is that there are signs of a growing transformation to the benefit of patients.
In a joint lecture by Nicola Bertrand, Georg-August-Universität of Göttingen, Achim Meier, Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH and Dirk Fischer, Drees & Sommer, the joint project New Building for Göttingen Hospital was presented. All three are convinced that ‘together we can do everything better.’
Professor Dr. Christian Stoy and Professor Linus Hofrichter outlined the course of study in HREM (Healthcare Real Estate Management) at the University of Stuttgart and presented the degree certificates to the first students to obtain a Master degree. One of the graduates, Isabell Habermann (Drees & Sommer), then reported on her experience in the course of study and the benefit which she gained from her daily work.
Karsten Valentin, Managing Director of Zentrale Errichtungsgesellschaft (ZEG) gave an introduction to the visit to Frankfurt-Höchst Hospital on the second day of the convention. The new building is a pilot project because it is being constructed as the world's first hospital to comply with the passive house energy efficiency standard. The surprising thing is that the costs of this hospital are in the same range as other hospital building projects although it is more energy-efficient and contains new technology.
The 10th anniversary convention on The Clinic Real Estate of the Next Generation will be held in The Squaire on June 23 and 24, 2020.
