New work: a site for a dream factory

Antonio Citterio

Project duration

2016–2018

Location

Arnulfpark, Munich, Germany

In 2018, the exclusive office building NOVE welcomed a new tenant: a US-based, multinational media corporation. When creating this building, architect and designer Antonio Citterio found inspiration in the typical Italian palazzo, with courtyards and bridges, boasting high-quality materials and furniture of his own design. This is a place where a company can fully display its identity. A zoned, open-plan workplace concept. With a Walk of Fame evoking memories of successes and crowd-pleasers. In the open space, 400 employees have their own modestly designed, standard workstations, which together form the backbone of the new office. There are meeting rooms of different sizes, attractive options for retreat, and excellent media equipment to facilitate hybrid collaboration. The centrepiece of the new office, however, is the spacious Meet & Eat area: catering is provided at specific times, and since the facilities and seating are designed for flexibility, they can be rearranged at will – for individual breaks or for large internal events. Close collaboration with American experts produced a cinema with 95 square metres of floorspace and 40 seats, where films can be shown on the big screen.
The garden lounges created on a bridge in the atrium complete the choice of break-out areas, rounding off the connection of the interior with the architecture. By deciding to do away with single offices for employees of every level of the hierarchy, management made a bold top-down statement. The company has moved to premises that are significantly more prestigious than before, and this is one of four projects that we have realised together based on overarching design guidelines developed by our teams in Munich and Milan. Next stop: Zurich.
