Growing Sustainability expertise at Drees & Sommer UK

Ana joined Drees & Sommer UK in mid-October 2021 growing our sustainability expertise within our expert team. With a background in Architecture and Sustainable Environmental Design, she is able to advise Clients, Architects and Engineers alike, motivating the whole team to align project goals with sustainability targets from the onset. When you combine her international experience in 3 different continents and various countries, with her language skills (English, German, Portuguese, and Spanish), Ana can intervene on any international project, creating meaningful relationships with people from all cultural backgrounds.

Her background and experience in architecture has allowed her to gain a technical understanding of buildings and enables her to promote innovative design. Ana has worked as a Sustainability Consultant for the past 5 years, where she has managed to build up in-depth knowledge of sustainability consultancy and management. She has also made a conscious effort in expanding her skill set in her previous company, Mott MacDonald, alongside the Global Sector Leader for the Built Environment to help develop a new global corporate growth strategy for a post-COVID recovery plan.

As a chartered Sustainability Consultant, she has worked with a range of different Clients, from Google to the NHS, on a wide variety of sustainability subjects. She has lead Platinum LEED Certification (project target) for three five-star new hotel developments at the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia (€4bn) and managed comprehensive Net Zero Carbon design brief and scoring metrics for the new LSE 35 Lincoln’s Inn Fields building design competition. For the Google HQ in California, Ana delivered healthy materials specialist consultancy, pursuing Living Building Challenge Materials Petal certification, her work consisted of helping with the materials strategy for the project, supply chain outreach and expansion of Google’s materials health design database.

Ana’s skillset goes beyond standard Sustainability Consultancy, for example, she was one of the authors of the new NHS’s Sustainability and Net-Zero framework. She has also worked as an information consultant, where she was responsible for stakeholder engagement in Colombia and Brazil for the Overseas Development Assistance (ODA)-funded BIM Pathfinder Programme (£3M), which aims to help countries develop and implement their own BIM mandate. She conducted training sessions for over 2000 public officers in Colombia, Brazil, and Peru in 2020 and 2021 and helped develop the Gender and Social Inclusion targets for all LATAM countries, with a clear focus of battling corruption.

Throughout, Ana’s focus has been to always educate and embed sustainable solutions to every project she has worked in, always remembering that true sustainability is all about a delivering the right balance between its three core pillars: planet, people, and profit. She will be combining this with Drees & Sommer’s expertise in circular economy and urban mining to build a forward-looking team, working with innovative architects and clients in London and Europe.
