Beneficial Company

Drees & Sommer: on the way to becoming a Beneficial Company

As a Beneficial Company, we give more back to the environment than we consume from it through our business activities.

STEPS TOWARD BECOMING A BENEFICIAL COMPANY

1
AVOID/REDUCE
  • Business travel (flights)
  • Single-use products
2
COMPENSATE
  • Offsetting CO2 emissions with certificates
3
CARBON POSITIVE AND CLIMATE POSITIVE
  • Purchase of green electricity
  • Using cradle-to-cradle products
  • Encouraging biodiversity
  • Planting trees
4
INVOLVED IN SOCIAL PROJECTS
  • Sports and health programmes for employees
  • Support for aid organisations and social institutions

As part of our sustainability strategy, we analyse the CO₂ emissions resulting from the energy supply at our locations and the volume of operational traffic. Annual CO₂ emissions amount to around 2.29 tonnes per employee. At over 80 percent, business travel and the vehicle fleet account for the largest share. The remaining emissions are attributable to the energy-related operation of the office buildings.

Gradual conversion of the vehicle fleet to alternative fuels

Green electricity at all German locations and company-owned charging stations

Expansion of photovoltaic systems at various locations

Job-related bike leasing and car sharing services, with subsidies for public transport tickets

Environmentally friendly products in the areas of events, catering, cleaning, print media and advertising materials

Recyclable building materials, furniture and interior fittings

Installation of taps for drinking water instead of using reusable bottles

Implementation of sustainable standards and cradle-to-cradle principles in construction projects for own use
