Area development vision for Thun North
A sustainable mixed-use district is to be created in the Thun North development area, a former military site. In a multi-stage workshop process, Drees & Sommer, under the leadership of TEN Architects and other specialist, developed an urban development vision that strengthens the existing buildings as a central resource. The existing building and open space structures form the spatial backbone for gradual further development, while an integrated mobility concept strengthens pedestrian and bicycle traffic and functionally integrates the existing infrastructure. Drees & Sommer was responsible for the basic analysis as well as user and supply issues and presented an initial economic classification. The vision forms a robust foundation for a resiliently organized neighborhood with a strong identity.
