Renovation of the "Gewerbliche Berufsschule" Wetzikon

The Wetzikon “Gewerbliche Berufsschule” (GBW) is being renovated and adapted to new user requirements. The general planning team, led by ARGE Galli Rudolf Architekten / Anderegg Partner AG, is pursuing the goal of creating a new overall ensemble. The strategy is: “As much as necessary – as little as possible.”

The relocation of the cafeteria and kitchen to an extension creates space for demolition work in the basement floors. These connect the different entrance levels. With minimal demolition work, the entrances are clarified and reweighted. The result is a light-flooded and clearly laid-out center with a pleasant atmosphere and a harmonious ambiance. The school becomes an open place of learning. An interaction between the interior and exterior spaces is created. Together with the renovated facades, the complex is upgraded and reestablished as a complete ensemble. The combination of an extension and minimal interventions in the interior allows for easy phasing during ongoing operations.
The construction project will be implemented in stages. Project planning began in fall 2019. Construction work started in mid-2022 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.

Drees & Sommer Switzerland has been commissioned with overall management.
