Redevelopment of St. Josef Clinic in Saint-Vith

The forward-looking redevelopment of St. Josef Clinic in St. Vith forms part of the Eifel Master Plan, a strategic initiative developed by Vivias Interkommunale Eifel and St. Josef Clinic. The master plan aims to strengthen medical care in the region in the long term and to develop the hospital into an integrated health centre. It combines the requirements of an acute care hospital with outpatient services, prevention and health promotion. The focus is on innovative care concepts tailored to the needs of the population, ensuring high-quality care whilst meeting increasing regulatory requirements.

For almost 140 years, the hospital has been a central pillar of local healthcare provision in the Belgian Eifel-Ardennes region. As a general hospital of supra-regional importance, it serves not only Belgium’s German-speaking community but also patients from the neighbouring German Eifel and northern Luxembourg.

Drees & Sommer Luxembourg is taking on project management for the hospital’s transformation process, overseeing the modernisation of the A&E department, the operating theatre area and the sterilisation unit, as well as the adaptation of the infrastructure to modern standards. The construction work is being carried out with a focus on functionality, sustainability and a high quality of stay for patients and staff. The construction work is taking place whilst the hospital remains in operation.

Particular emphasis is placed on the sustainability of the project. The hospital is pursuing a comprehensive energy strategy aimed at reducing its carbon footprint, integrating renewable energy sources and lowering operating costs. In addition, mobility and access concepts are being developed to better integrate the site into its urban surroundings, benefiting both patients and staff.

With this project, we are making an important contribution to sustainable healthcare provision in the Eifel region and creating sustainable structures for the area.
