University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (BOKU)

Construction of a university building for the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (BOKU)

Project type: Culture, Education

Location: Peter Jorrdan Straße 82 1190 Wien

Client: BIG, Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft mbH
Architect: SWAP Architekten

Functions:
Seminar rooms, learning rooms and rooms for the Institute of Transportation of the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna. Ideal for events, meeting point and market place for students.
At the location of the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU) a further building will be erected to cover the demand for office and teaching space. This building is a wooden structure.

The building has a usable floor space (NF) of approx. 3,000m². In addition to the seminar centre with around 1,100 m² NF, the library with around 600m² NF and the institute rooms with around 500m² NF, poll and user rooms with around 600m² will also be built.

Challenges overcome:
Short construction time due to tight time schedule, tight cost specifications, reinforced concrete core and timber construction with sustainable appearance, high energy efficiency, alongside ongoing operation of the university.
Slope protection measures using shotcrete - nail wall are currently being implemented.
During the implementation it has to be taken into account that in the surrounding objects of the BOKU (Wilhelm-Exner-Haus, Franz Schwackhöfer Haus, Center for International Relocation) an undisturbed university operation has to be maintained.
An integrally created Building Information Model (BIM) is used for the planning.
